Fast Company has a great story about Goldbely, a venture designed to connect small suppliers to far-away foodies.
The CEO, Joe Ariel has, in effect, made an Etsy, a distribution system, that allows independent food artisans to reach a vastly larger consumer base than exists in their locality.
Or, to put this another way, the artisan food makers can now live in “far flung” communities and still have access to a market large enough to sustain their passion.
